Aside from Lemmy and getting random news via social media… I have a set of news sites and computer magazines I like. I think we have several good ones. I visit them manually when I’m in the mood.
A software developer and Linux nerd, living in Germany. I’m usually a chill dude but my online persona doesn’t always reflect my true personality. Take what I say with a grain of salt, I usually try to be nice and give good advice, though.
I’m into Free Software, selfhosting, microcontrollers and electronics, freedom, privacy and the usual stuff. And a few select other random things, too.

It comes with a load of different perspectives and emotions. I agree with the person pointing out it has a lot to do with victimhood and blaming other people, if used as a self-description. I wouldn’t use it that way. And using it on another person I think it’s derogatory. So I also wouldn’t use it unless I wanted to hurt someone.
I don’t have any personal experience. But finding other people who you can talk to is a good idea. Maybe the internet can connect you. A quick google yielded the following result: https://www.lupus.org/resources/find-support-near-you
And maybe a local support group can offer something of value. And it seems to be one of the diseases with symptoms that vary widely in how severe they are.
Maybe some early pranks. Most of what they do seems legit, fighting oppression and calling out bigots and disgusting people.
I like than everyone seems to think we’re days or weeks away from a ChatGPT 5 release. I’ve read that claim for months now.
But I agree with the premise of the article. Whistleblowing should be legal and appreciated. I wouldn’t rely on the government however. They’ve done far worse things than just fire someone who calls them out, in the past.
I think we have some more pressing issues with email. We need a new protocol that effectively fights spam, phishing and adds encryption and signatures. And that protocol needs close to 100% adoption around the world. I don’t mind if we also go ahead and make it more efficient and add features like automatic deletion etc. But that’s just the cherry on top.
It’s the internet. Lots of people write silly stuff and blast their uninformed opinion around. That also happens on the Fediverse. They do it for various reasons. And it’s easier to do it pseudonomysly than in real life. Also you’d expect some left-wing people to pop up on Mastodon, since they’ve left Twitter and Mastodon is the number one alternative.
Coffee
It’s derogative and ultimatively looking down at people. So not acceptable.
And I mean in what context would you call someone a “retard” and not mean it as a slur? I don’t see any situation. Either you say that to insult someone. Or you say it to a person who it applies to… But it doesn’t really help in most situations. They probably already know. And they can’t change it anyways. And you could phrase it differently. So in most cases I’d say it’s insulting and not constructive.
Same post from yesterday: https://lemmy.world/post/19716272
Long article with some nice thoughts. And I’d add: Art is about exploring, communicating, … And that includes current events and technology. I mean not every picture is art. But as AI is part of the world, art has to deal with the subject. And art has methods to do so. And I see some potential in AI’s ability to be interactive.
And since it wasn’t ever a secret that these services are for data harvesting, they got next to nothing from me. I mean does it make a substancial difference if they sell your data or use it to get to know you so they can do targeted advertising… Or train an AI with it? I’d say the latter isn’t even that bad compared to the other business model. But yeah, be cautious about these tech companies. Generally speaking they’re not invested in your privacy. On the contrary. If you value that, use other services. And it’s been that way for quite some time.
Well, nothing lasts forever. I’d say distributing them on something that lasts 10+ years is better than doing noting. Otherwise they just get lost, buried in the attic or the next harddrive crash takes them.
I’d argue caring just for national workers isn’t baked into social democracy. Maybe on the contrary. In a globalized world we have to unite. And the exporting and importing goods, needing qualified and unqualified workers means an economy has to pay attention to foreign people, too. Yeah but exploitaition of the south and importing cheap goods from developing countries is part of history. And still what happens as of today. I don’t see it specifically connected to this form of economy. In theory i don’t think it’s well aligned.
But I didn’t watch the video, yet. Maybe I can muster up the time later. It’s 90minutes long. And doesn’t seem I can watch it while doing other things 😉
Depends on where you are. Usually if it’s a legal source, you can save it. But you’re not supposed to share it unless given permission. If you downloaded it from a source that’s not legal, things might change, depending on the specifics of your law.
I’d like to throw in social-democracy, too… It’s more popular to go for one of the extremes while forming a strong opinion… But caring for the people and more for the workers than for the rich is a possibility whithout going to the extreme.
I think as a country they don’t need “in” on AI. They already do lots of AI, robotics… Published language models that are on par with what’s publicly available elsewhere, use quite some electricity for AI compared to other countries… So I think it’s just the next AI thing, this time from China. And probably part of some strategy to end up in a total surveillance, techno dystopia. Now they need to connect it to WeChat and all of their camera surveillance and they’re almost there.
Yeah, it’s so much novel. And Jarvis - of course - is the only scifi to compare things to.
The article is kind of all over the place mixing high-school graduates and fourth-graders? I can see how you’re sluggish at typing in fourth grade… The numbers for a 17 year old would be interesting… But yeah, 13 words per minute isn’t impressive. And most young people I know use phones and tablets, not computers. So naturally a good amount of them isn’t good around these things.
We need uncensored models. Eric Hartford wrote a good blog article in May 2023 about the whole topic: https://erichartford.com/uncensored-models
I think that also applies to biology reasearch and a variety of topics. And also in the adult industry AI can contribute new “art” or take away and flood everything with low quality content. We also have fights about copyright everywhere. I don’t see the adult industry in a different position than other industries… We’re going to see how AI changes things. Having a say certainly helps. I don’t like things being forced on people.
