  • Urban areas tend towards D, rural tends toward R. Smaller population states have smaller, less populous urban areas, thus the discrepancy.

Why? My theory is that smaller communities can force out opposition, so they tend to have more uniform ideas (trends towards tradition) whereas larger communities have to compromise to make a healthy community, meaning more diversity of ideas and more empathy towards traditionally counter-culture groups.

  • The tag does two things. One, for people like me (ND ASD) the tag allows us to actually understand what you’re trying to say. Kind of a dick move to exclude people from the conversation. Two, and far more important, it’s no longer a question if you’re being sarcastic. That doesn’t sound important until you remember that 4chan literally brought back nazis because they thought ironic nazism was hilarious. And then all the closeted nazis used that to say “none of those people are being ironic, they all mean what they’re saying” to new, properly primed recruits.

  • Generative AI, as it is being built right now, is a dead-end. It won’t get much better than it currently is (markedly worse once the next-gen is forced to scrape data that includes AI generated data) and hallucinations are always going to be the reality for them.

It’s why there’s this big push over the last couple of years to get these products to market. Not because you’re going to corner some burgeoning industry (though the hype definitely is designed to look like that), but because this is a grift now and you have to get the goods while there’s still goods to get. Need to recoup those R&D dollars somehow.

  • Yeah, none of that has anything to do with the neurodivergent spectrum. Also, it isn’t a scale from minor to major. It’s an informal extension of the autism spectrum to include the other neurodivergent conditions, since there tends to be a lot of comorbidity across ASD, ADHD, ASPD, NPD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, etc. But, to be included in the spectrum, you have to have a neurodivergent condition. If you don’t, that would make you neurotypical and that would put you in a different spectrum.

Edit: being neurotypical doesn’t mean you should get help for your mental health. Everyone should, we’re animals who made society and we’re not equipped to handle all of… this gestures everywhere

  • I don’t understand. In order to be diagnosed with autism, you must have deficits in social communication across three criteria groups (reciprocity, nonverbal communication, developing/ maintaining relationships) and repetitive, restrictive behaviors. The symptoms can change in severity throughout your life, but must be present throughout your entire life. And the symptoms can’t better be explained by intellectual disabilities.

Like, you either meet those criteria or you don’t. The spectrum is for those who meet all the criteria above as a way of explaining how different all of us with ASD are. My nibling is high support needs, nonverbal but I, as a low support needs adult, understand him better than I get most of my allistic peers. Allistic individuals might identify with parts of autism, but that doesn’t make them autistic unless they meet the above criteria
